Director of Institutional Services
Institutional clients can, at times, be intimidated by the fiduciary obligations they need to fulfil. That’s why David Luckes finds it so rewarding to empower BAM ALLIANCE member firms and their nonprofit clients with the tools they need to make thoughtful choices, many of which directly impact the lives of individuals, families and neighborhoods, as well as entire communities.
David believes effective asset stewardship translates directly into an institution’s capacity to serve its stakeholders today and tomorrow. He understands that, while the expertise of an institutional advisor is grounded in the discipline of investment management, advisors must fundamentally be mission partners with their clients.
As Director of Institutional Services, David serves as a resource for BAM ALLIANCE member firms looking to bring BAM Advisor Services’ client-centered and evidence-based approach to serving institutions and nonprofits to their firms.
Prior to joining BAM Advisor Services, David served on a wealth management team in the Private Banking and Investment Group at Merrill Lynch in St. Louis. He also served 10 years as president and chief executive officer of the Greater Saint Louis Community Foundation, where he helped grow assets, on a net basis, by $125 million and secure more than $200 million in gifts while granting away more than $130 million. Before that, David worked in Merrill Lynch’s Wealth Management Services Division and Trust Company as a senior philanthropic consultant after spending 18 years as a development officer and executive in the nonprofit sector.
David remains an active author and conference speaker, lecturing on topics related to private philanthropy, fundraising and nonprofit management. He is a past faculty member in DePaul University’s Fund Raising Management Certificate Program in Chicago and has served as an adjunct professor in the Arts Administration Program at the Art Institute of Chicago.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Northwestern University and an MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg Graduate School of Management. David is also a registered Investment Advisor Representative and holds his Series 66 financial license.
David serves on the board of directors of Eden Theological Seminary and the St. Louis Language Immersion Charter School, as well as the investment subcommittee of the YMCA of Greater St. Louis. He is also an active member of the National Ski Patrol, teaching outdoor emergency care and patrolling at Hidden Valley Ski Resort in Wildwood, Mo.
David and his partner, Karl, live in Webster Groves, Mo., with their two children, Aaron and Hannah.
